Engine Break-In (First 20 Hours)
Vary engine speed constantly — avoid sustained high RPM or idling for extended periods. First 2 hours: keep below 50% throttle, no full acceleration. Hours 2–10: gradually increase to 75% throttle maximum. Hours 10–20: occasional full throttle bursts allowed, but avoid sustained WOT.
Change engine oil and filter at 10 hours and again at 20 hours. Metal particles from initial wear contaminate early oil changes — removing them protects your engine.
Brake and Drivetrain Break-In
Apply brakes gently for the first 50 km to seat pad material against rotors. Avoid hard emergency stops unless necessary for safety. Check brake fluid level after the first 10 hours.
For belt-driven CVT transmissions, avoid sustained low-speed crawling that generates belt heat. For chain-drive models, check chain tension after 5 hours and lubricate regularly.
What to Avoid During Break-In
Do not: tow heavy loads, install performance modifications, ride in deep mud for extended periods, or ignore the first scheduled oil change. Do not let the engine overheat — monitor temperature gauges and take breaks.
